Goals is an opinionated habit and task tracking app that tries to use best practices in cognitive psychology to help users be maximally productive. It uses the WOOP (Wish, Outcome, Obstacles, Plan) framework developed by Gabriele Oettingen to help users structure their goals to be optimally achievable, and then helps users set targets which are accomplished during a sprint.

Unlike other tracking systems, in Goals, you do NOT know when a sprint ends. Sprints end when they reach their pre-determined hidden end date, or when you have been productive enough that you win the sprint (also hidden). You can reliably end a sprint by completing all your goals, but every time you complete a habit or a task, it’s possible the sprint will end. This duplicates the variable-ratio reward schedule used in slot machines. Every completed task is a chance to win big.

After sprints, users are prompted to reflect, and if things didn’t go well, are guided through creating Adaptations, strategies to prevent things from going wrong in a similar way. This feeds back into the WOOP process used when creating goals.

Goals runs fully locally with only necessary network connections, with an optional paid upgrade for cross-device synchronization.
